Introduction:On September 2nd 2008, online search engine giant Google Inc. (Google) launched its own Web browser 'Chrome'. Chrome marked a significant advance in technology, as it is not just a browser, but an operating system in its own right. By creating its own browser, Google has entered, though late, the browser market, which was until then prominently dominated by Internet Explorer (IE) (nearly 72% market share) and other players being Firefox, Netscape, Opera and Apple's Safari. Chrome is being understood both as defensive as well as aggressive strategy of Google to challenge Microsoft's dominance. Since Chrome can be likened to an operating system, its entry into the browser market is being considered as a threat to Microsoft's operating system, Windows. If Chrome succeeds, it would also benefit the business of Google as a company. However, can Chrome challenge the dominance of IE? Does Chrome's entry signal another browser war akin to the one in the 1990s?
